Probo Medical recently worked on a significant project at New Cross Hospital in Wolverhampton. With just two weeks’ notice the team got busy planning everything as requested, aiming to meet the tight deadline that incorporated little contingency.

New Cross hospital had commissioned the refurbishment of their existing CT room and procurement of a new system.  To ensure continuity and continued patient care, they made the decision to convert their X-Ray room into a temporary CT Room. Probo Medical had already won the opportunity to procure their redundant system, therefore an agreement was completed for the team to support New Cross hospital with their total temporary requirement, from removing the existing equipment, to adapting the X-Ray room and providing a rental CT solution. The Probo Medical team were extremely excited to be taking on this challenge within the short timescales.

Mandy Davis, Technical Operations and Programme Manager at Probo Medical, said “We had to change the X-Ray room into a temporary CT room, first dismantling the existing lead screen and building a fully lead lined control room to meet all RPA requirements.  Once this had been constructed, we scheduled the installation of the rental CT into this newly converted room. After ensuring it was in full working order, we then worked on deinstalling the old CT from the previous CT room. This had to be completed to allow their appointed contractors to commence the refurbishment of their existing CT room within their agreed programme.

We therefore had to turn things around quickly and effectively, liaising with the team at the hospital to obtain approvals for the various elements while ensuring completion within the very short time scale, with as little disruption to staff and patients as possible. The staff at New Cross Hospital have expressed how pleased they are with the efficiency of the Probo Medical team and confirmed “it was a great success.”

Head of Operational Radiology at The Royal Wolverhampton NHS Trust Stuart Simper explained “Everything went very smoothly including fitting the injector. This project has been tight and we have also contributed to the delay whilst sorting out the RIS problem. The team on-site have been great and very accommodating and Probo Medical have dealt with any problems rapidly to help this over the line, so thank you for this. Overall, I think this has been a very successful project particularly as this was a last-minute decision to install the scanner in the X-ray room.”
